Hello World!

My name is Alexis J and I am a Graduate of the Ohio Media School (The Ohio Center for Broadcasting). My life right now is BEYOND hectic but I love it. This is the first time I’ve been able to actually ENJOY what I’m doing. Everyday is a new challenge and a new opportunity. Carpe diem!

Ten Million Things To Do Today Ahhhhhh!

Its 7am, barely light outside (ring, ring, ring) your alarm goes off. You open your eyes, still in a daze as you stare at the ceiling. It’s Monday morning. Such a crazy weekend an extra day off would have been glorious. Time to get up, you tell yourself. Jump out of bed and you think about the million things you need to complete today. Homework that you didn’t get to, a new project at work, dinner with your mom tonight, plus picking up that last minute baby shower gift. If only there were more hours in a day. https://en.todoist.com/

A lot of Americans experience this type of stressful day more often than not. Everything today is so urgent and immediate. It creates unnecessary stress that’s harmful for your mind and body. http://psychcentral.com/lib/4-tips-to-change-the-way-you-deal-with-stress/0009953 Mindfulness is something that’s been around for ages. It is defined as “a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique”

In other words live in the moment. If you are finally starting on that work project focus solely on that. Don’t think about the birds chirping, or the gardener mowing the lawn just outside your window. Right easier said than done. Mindfulness is not something that will just come to you easily. It’s just like riding a bike. You have to fall a few times before you actually master the technique. http://www.practicingmindfulness.com/16-simple-mindfulness-exercises/ Just start on small tasks like washing the dishes. What does the water feel like? What kind of soap did you use? Why do I only have three forks in my entire house?

There is an abundance of techniques that you can practice with. Breathing, meditating, walking, sitting in the sun, or even reading a book, just to name a few. I am one of those over worked Americans on the go. This is something I struggle with on a daily bases. True mindfulness is like becoming your true self. In return you gain patience and understanding.
